Submerged Map (A Custom Among Us Map)

I had the opportunity to work on a privately commission custom map for the mega popular game Among Us.

This map was commissioned by Twitch Streamer 5up, and funded by the community of Twitch streamers who became known for playing the popular game.

I became lead artist on the project and worked with an amazing team all round!

More art will be added as I comb through my files.

The map was released 25th June 2021.

How I got the gig. I was asked to submit an art test, a drawing of a crewmate with outfit, to ensure I could replicate the style of the original game.

I couldn't not add a hat and a pet.

Also pictured are concepts for hats that were never used.

The first thing I worked on was the iconic Eject Scene. But I had to make it a little bit unique by including a sea-monster to swallow up the unfortunate drowned. Mwahaha!

Central was the first room I started on due the complexity of the design: two levels overlaid with the ability to see players on the lower deck. The devs had to test the concept early.

The Ballast room was pretty unique due to the grid floor. While I loved the concept, execution was a challenge. I was worried it didn't fit with the Among Us style but with encouragement from the team I pulled it off!

One of my favourite parts of the project was finding things to populate the environment with. These are some of my favourite little details.

Creating art for games isn't all about fun, important or interesting things. It also involves the mundane, like creating the textures for floors. It may be mundane but a lot of thought and consideration went into each design, and it was still fun to do!
